Are these flowers going to be in the shade or sun most of the day? A real easy one to grow ( it's what I started with) impatience, they are big time shade lovers. Not sure about sun lovers, I tend to keep mine in the shade. All I do now, is spread seed around, I did that last year, and have flowers blooming now. I'll look into it more, and post again.

Below is a list of perennials that are for sunny flower beds.
Bearded iris
Boltonia
Butterfly weed
Coreopsis
Daylily (landscape types)
Evergreen candytuft
Gaura
Goldenrod
Peony
Purple coneflower
Rudbeckia
Salvia
Showy sedum
Veronica
Wormwood (artemisia)

Personally I would go with the Peony, they are just one of my favorite. But, if you don't want to actually buy plants, and transplant them, there is still time to pick up a few packs of seeds and plant them.
The new garden I just finished, I had 3 packs of flower seeds, and I just scattered them around, what the birds didn't get, are coming through the ground now. I presume that the area is fairly well drained as well. If water doesn't usually stand after the rain then it's a good place for the above plants.
Dollor General carries flower seeds, last year they were 2 for $1.00. I don't know what they are this year. Be sure to look on the back of the pkg to see how tall they will grow.

If the flowers along the house will have a plain back ground (no window, or anything) I would plant Hollyhocks they are super easy to grow, and are very pretty. I love this flowering plants. However, they can get upto and taller then 6 feet. I had mine along the east end of my shed, which prettied up my shed. lol
If you have any more questions, just ask...
